KC Fee cited “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” as her inspiration for the look she created for Kate Mara at the Emmy’s. “I can see this makeup at an evening garden setting or at a wedding with a rustic garden feel,” she said. To achieve the look, Fee began by first highlighting brow bones with a shimmery pale pink shadow like Chanel Ombre Essentielle in Complice. She then rubbed the burgundy Chanel Illusion d’Ombre in Ebloui onto lids and layered M.A.C Pigment in Copper on top “for tons of eye-catching glimmer,” she said. After dragging the copper shade along lower lids, Fee brushed the maroon hue from Chanel Les 4 Ombres Palette in Spices into the creases. She then smudged Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Pencil in Jet into the waterlines, outer half of the lower lash lines, and along top lash lines, slightly extending it past the eyes. “That pencil is fab. I love it so much,” she said. “It just glides on so easily and it doesn’t move when it sets.” Next, she combed through lashes with mascara and tapped the blue-toned pink Nars Blush in Gaiety onto the cheeks. To “marry the shades on cheeks and lips,” Fee first softly lined the mouth with a matching color for subtle definition, then pressed YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Rose Aphrodite into the pout with a finger “so the lips can absorb the color and the lipstick lasts longer,” she explained.

Katy Perry
“We did a soft sultry eye with a fresh pink lip so it wouldn’t become too femme fatale for daytime,” said Jake Bailey of the pop star’s look at the VMAs. “During the day, it should be a hazy eye, not a smoky eye. This look would be good for a dramatic daytime black-tie wedding.” To create Perry’s hazy eyes, Bailey first ran CoverGirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Black Fire into top lash lines before softening the color with his fingertips. He then smudged the taupe Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Mushroom into waterlines and along the outer lower lashes, then set the liners with the dark brown CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Scorching Cocoa, which he blended along the bottom, into the creases, and at the outer corners to slightly elongate the eyes. Next, Bailey swept Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Powder in Candlelight on the inner lids and along brow bones as a highlight. He coated lashes with the waterproof CoverGirl Lashblast 24 Hour Mascara before beefing them up with bunches of individual falsies. Meanwhile, he shaped lips and filled them in with the shimmery mauve-pink CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipliner in Beloved and topped them off with a dab of lip balm. “That waterproof lip liner is super, super durable and won’t bleed,” Bailey said. “You won’t have to reapply it.” To seek a balance between the colored lips and eyes, Bailey skipped blush and instead applied Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base to the hollows of the cheeks.
